Nordic RCC – supporting security of supply and the green transition

The energy sector in Europe is undergoing a dramatic transition towards the fully carbon neutral, sustainable energy system. The Nordic countries have set particularly stretching targets for the transition during this decade. Nordic RCC is an important contributor to the green transition as the provider of regional power system planning data and security analysis to support the national transmission system operators of Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark to ensure the efficient operation of the Nordic Power System and high security of power supply at any time.

Therefore, Nordic RCC is searching for a power system engineer with good knowledge about grid modelling methods and practices. As our new colleague you will be working in the Grid Modelling and Alignment team, while also helping the development of analytics and operation function at the company.

Being part of a small, dedicated team consisting of power engineers, data scientist and data professionals, you will help develop and improve the Nordic Common Grid Model and the associated alignment data. This forms the basis for most of the services currently provided by the Nordic RCC towards the TSOs. In addition to develop and maintaining the modelling of the Nordic grid, you will also work on improving and helping operational business processes and the data quality of the final deliverables.

Your primary tasks and areas of responsibility

  • Analyzing grid models used for operational capacity calculation and security analysis to gain insights.
  • Identifying weakness and potential  improvements.
  • Supporting and follow up daily operation by providing grid modelling expertise.
  • Developing the tools used in operations and back-office.
  • Testing of new functionalities in tools for the end users.
  • Testing and monitoring data changes in grid model to ensure stable operation.
  • Improving and maintaining of the data quality.
  • Coordinating between TSOs, tooling vendors and between RCC services.
  • Improving integration of NRCC services and supporting IT systems.
  • Supporting TSOs in improving the representation and accuracy of their grid models.

Required skills and experience

You hold a MSc or BSc degree in electrical engineering with strong focus on power systems and electricity markets. Additionally, you also have strong competences working with data sets. Ideally, you have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in industry or research.

We are looking for a person with logical problem and issue solving skills, with the ability to interact with colleagues from different fields of expertise, both from the Nordic RCC, the Nordic TSOs and other European RCCs. Good understanding of data relations and systems for business processes running in operation is seen beneficial.

On a personal level you are open-minded towards end-users in tooling and process development, team-oriented and take responsibility.
